Hello! My name is Richard (or Ricky) Miller and I am an incoming 2nd year student at Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto. I was born and raised in Japan and attended an international school in Kobe, Japan. Growing up, I played different sports but my interest mainly lay in soccer until around third grade. Since then, I have grown a passion for ice hockey. Coinciding with my passion for ice hockey, I started falling in love with the Ottawa Senators and thus became a fan.
The Hamburglar run of 2015 exponentially grew my interest in the Senators and the 2017 playoffs run cemented it. Following the dreadful rebuild, I continued to watch as many games as possible, despite the Senators being on the losing end for the most part (they still kind of are but it was worse in the past). Then, this past year, I was fortunate enough to watch three games – 1 pre-season and 2 regular season. I wasn’t a fan back in the early 2000s (I was born around that time) but hopefully the Senators can return to their winning ways (and hopefully their first cup with this franchise).
I gained an interest in creating ice hockey-related content and was a contributor for Senshot and Last Word On Hockey, posting 32 articles in total. Prior to writing ice hockey articles, I had a Senators fan page on Instagram (if you’re interested in this journey, check this TEDx youth video out!). I am currently looking to get into blogging, specifically writing about how to grow hockey, with a focus on untraditional areas.
I want to make as much of a positive impact in the world so I am constantly trying to do this through different projects. Due to my love for sports, this is one way I have been looking to leave a positive impact, such as by raising money to fully fund a basketball court for an NGO school in Kenya. Other areas I am looking to get into include sustainability and supporting Indigenous people in Canada (which I have direct ties to – I am a Status Indian).
